Acupuncture is a complete medical system with roots that are over 3,000 years old.  It is the most extensively used form of medicine in the world and effectively treats everything from back pain to hormonal conditions. From a traditional perspective, life energy or "Qi" flows through channels in the body.  Sickness and pain are a manifestation of the Qi not flowing correctly. A licensed acupuncturist can insert fine needles into the skin at precise points to help the body re-balance this flow.

From a Western perspective, the channels correlate to the anatomical pattern of a connective tissue called fascia, which conducts electricity and directs hormones and other signaling molecules to specific parts of the body. Qi can be considered the amalgamation of these hormonal cascades and electrical gradients as they are effected by acupuncture.

What to expect for your first treatment?

The appointment will begin with an initial health consultation where we will discuss your overall state of health, your goals for treatment, and any questions you may have about acupuncture.  We will then look at your tongue and feel your pulse for more information about your health. Once we have a clear understanding of your body, we will create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and begin a full acupuncture session.

Most people find acupuncture to be extremely relaxing and comfortable. The needles used to perform acupuncture are 20 times smaller than the hypodermic syringes used by your doctor and create little to no sensation upon insertion.

How often will you need to come in and how many treatments will you need?

The treatment frequency and total number will depend on the severity, nature, and duration of the problem.  Most patients show significant improvement in 2-10 treatments.

Swedish & Deep Tissue Massage (not currently offering)

Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage are two of the most popular types of massage in the United States. Swedish Massage involves the use of hands, forearms, or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. Swedish massage can be delivered at  variety of pressures, and is typically a full body session. The benefits of Swedish massage include increased circulation, mental and physical relaxation, decreased stress and muscle tension, and improved range of motion. Deep Tissue Massage is focused work, often used for sports injuries and to relieve chronic pain, and it generally involves more tension and pressure than Swedish Massage. We can offer sessions that have a structural approach, which may include client movement, to address fascial patterns contributing to imbalance in the body. Craniosacral techniques, myofascial release, as well as trigger point therapy may also be included in your session. In other words, your appointment will be tailored by the practitioner to your physical situation and your goals for the appointment.
